How We Started
The idea really began in our kitchen, of all places.
My boyfriend, Mike, and I were playing Spades at the table and after a few hands (and drinks) I started complaining about my bra underwires poking me in my armpits. After taking it off, I told Mike how I wished there was something to help with this. Being a larger chested girl, it was so much harder to find clothes that fit right.
Every time I went to the store all I ever found was shirts that fit me like crop-tops and bathing suits that my breasts popped out of the sides or they were just so uncomfortable, or just plain out ugly. I wanted style but didn’t want to give up comfort, and wanted comfort but still wanted to feel like I was wearing something from this century.
The more I talked with Mike, the more I vented about all the problems with women’s clothes. At that point we started coming up with ideas. Lots of ideas… Ideas that I hope to share with you on this journey.
Hello, my name is Becki, and I am the Founder and CEO of Sea Nympho
Michael, and I were both raised in sunny Florida, the land of beaches. The water has always been a big part of both of our lives. I love to swim and Michael loves to fish. Needless to say, we have frequented several beaches, rivers, and lakes in Florida over the years.
I spent almost a year after that night in the kitchen without really thinking about the idea again, until one day while riding to Daytona Beach. We were talking about the fishing community and we came up with the name Sea Nympho. This time, we talked about designs and where the focus would be. I had ideas for clothing, jewelry, art, and other accessories.
Another thing I wanted to make sure I included on this venture was CONSERVATION! This is huge! I thought, not only could I help create some awesome clothing designs and have an AWESOME name *wink* but I could help save the oceans and creatures in it.
Sea Nympho is about more than just clothing, it’s about raising awareness. I know we aren’t perfect but at least we are trying!
Before I fully decided on the logo, my first idea was of using a mermaid. I mean hey, everyone likes mermaids, but I thought of the one-size-fits-all beauty mermaids portray, and didn’t want to go with that theme. We are real women, and we have real bodies.
Then I thought of the free flowing and natural look of an octopus. An octopus just lives and doesn’t care about people judging it’s beauty. Octopi adapt to change and protect what they love with their lives. Instead of the little mermaid look, I went with the Ursula look because, well…
some days you just feel more like a Salty Witch.
…and you better rock it!
Much Love,
